The short version
Unlocked is a one-person indie project. We don't build profiles on you. We don't sell your data. The app works without an account. If you fill out a feedback form, that data helps us make the app better — full stop. Everything else is explained below.
01 Who we are
Unlocked is an ADHD-friendly task execution and focus timer app developed independently by NonCoding Cat. It's a one-person project — no company, no team of data scientists, no advertising partners.
This privacy policy covers both the Unlocked Android app and the noncodingcat.com website. By using either, you're agreeing to the practices described here. If you disagree with anything, please reach out — we'd genuinely like to know.
02 What we collect
We only collect what we actually need. Here's a breakdown:
Feedback form submissions
If you fill out the feedback survey on our website, your responses are submitted via Formspree. This may include answers to multiple choice questions and any optional free-text you write. We receive these responses by email. We don't collect your name or email address unless you choose to include them in your message.
App data — stored on your device only
The Unlocked app stores all your tasks, timers, tags, notes, and activity history locally on your device using SharedPreferences. This data never leaves your phone. We have no access to it, and it is not synced to any server.
No account required
Unlocked does not require you to create an account. There is no login, no sign-up, and no user profile stored anywhere outside your device.
Website visits
When you visit noncodingcat.com, standard web server logs may record your IP address and browser type as part of normal hosting infrastructure. We do not actively use this data for tracking. IONOS (our hosting provider) may retain server logs in accordance with their own privacy policy.
03 Notifications & reminders
Unlocked uses local notifications — these are generated entirely on your device. We do not use push notification services or remote servers to send you messages.
Notifications are triggered by your own scheduled tasks. For example, if you schedule a task for 7pm, the app will fire a local reminder at that time. This is all handled on-device by Android's notification system.
The background timer service runs locally and sends a live notification while a timer is active. This notification shows the task name and remaining time. Again — all local, nothing transmitted anywhere.
You can manage notification permissions at any time in your phone's Settings app under Apps → Unlocked → Notifications.
04 Analytics
The current version of Unlocked does not include any analytics or crash reporting SDK. We receive no automatic telemetry from the app.
In a future update, we may add anonymous, aggregated usage analytics (for example, to understand which features are used most). If and when this happens:
What future analytics would include
Aggregate feature usage data (e.g. "Sort Later was used X times today"), crash reports, and basic device info (OS version, screen size). No personal identifiers. No task names. No notes content.
We'll tell you before it ships
This policy will be updated, and a visible in-app notice will appear before any analytics are enabled. You'll have the option to opt out.
For now, we have no data pipeline. Zero.
05 Ko-fi & donations
If you choose to support Unlocked via Ko-fi, you're using Ko-fi's own platform at ko-fi.com. Any payment or personal information you provide goes to Ko-fi directly — we don't see your card details or billing address.
We may receive your Ko-fi username or display name if you leave a message with a donation. We use this only to say thank you, and we don't store it anywhere beyond that conversation.
Ko-fi has their own privacy policy which governs how they handle your data. We recommend reading it at ko-fi.com/privacy.
06 Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services. Here's what each one does and why:
07 We don't sell your data
Your data is not for sale. Full stop.
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with any third party for commercial purposes. We have no advertising partners. We receive no money in exchange for user data. This is an indie app built out of genuine interest — not a data harvesting operation wearing a productivity app as a costume.
The only people who see feedback form submissions are us (NonCoding Cat). It's used solely to understand how to make the app better. That's it.
08 Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. We'll honour all reasonable requests. Here's what you can ask us to do:
Access
Ask us what personal data we hold about you (if any). For most users, this will be nothing — unless you submitted a feedback form.
Deletion
Ask us to delete any personal data we hold. If you submitted feedback, we'll remove it from our records on request.
Correction
Ask us to correct any inaccurate information we hold about you.
Portability
Your app data (tasks, timers, activity history) lives entirely on your device. You own it and can back it up or export it at any time through your phone's standard tools.
Object
If we ever introduce analytics or data processing, you'll have the right to opt out. We'll make that option obvious and easy.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@noncodingcat.com. We'll respond within a reasonable timeframe — usually within a week.
09 Children
Unlocked is not directed at children under the age of 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13.
If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted personal information through our feedback form, please contact us at hello@noncodingcat.com and we'll remove it promptly.
10 Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to this privacy policy — especially if we add analytics or new data collection — we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and add a notice in the app.
We won't quietly slip in changes that matter. If something significant changes, we'll make it obvious.
Continuing to use the app or website after a policy update means you've accepted the updated terms. If you ever disagree with the direction things are heading, please tell us — we genuinely want to get this right.
